troika tuesday: to-hit hack
In the core rules, combat is an opposed 2D6 roll where players add their Skill Total (Skill+Adv.Skill) and enemies add their Skill.
Being numerically challenged, I feel this could be streamlined.
Players: Roll 2D6 and only add your relevant fighting skill. Potentially make this less (or more?) confusing by changing fighting skills to a new kind of stat: Combat Bonus, represented with a + before the integer.
COMBAT BONUSES
knives: +1
tunnels: +2
Enemies: No longer have a Skill score. Instead they just have a Combat Bonus, usually between +1 and +3.
Enemies with spells have a bespoke skill rank attached to each spell listed.
Goblin Shaman. CB +1. Spells: Jolt 5, Befuddle 8.
If the enemy needs to make a generic skill or luck test, roll 2D6 under CB + 6.
The primary intention of all this is that you are rolling 2D6+2 instead of 2D6+6+2. It's just a bit easier.
A possible side effect is that tying combat to a separately formatted stat might alleviate a common source of confusion I've observed in newer players, namely that Skill Tests are 2D6 UNDER while Combat Tests are 2D6 OVER, despite both allegedly using your Skill stat.
